Diego Costa was in splendid form away at Swansea, scoring twice and taking his tally to 17 Premier League goals in 19 Premier League games. He is now only two goals short of matching the total goals scored by Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o combined for the whole of last season. Costa is on a whole new level. The sort of level Chelsea fans have not seen a striker on since Didier Drogba was in his prime.

His first goal against Swansea sort of epitomized him, he found the space and then coolly slotted past the keeper. It didn’t involve anything too wonderful, just composure and a crisp finish.

He is, simply so good at finish. Of the top ten scorers in the Premier League nobody has a better chance conversion than Costa, who has finished 37% of his chances this season. He’s also scoring goals away from home, seven in ten.

He’s arguably more effective in his all action attacking style, with his brute force as well as poise in front of goal. A lot of the praise Aguero gets is because of his sleek style. Aguero’s chance conversion looks poor compared to Costa’s. He’s converted just 23.3% of his chances, which whilst not being bad, is certainly not world class clinical finishing. Costa’s 37% is.

With Chelsea’s style of play there is nobody currently playing who could lead the line better for them. They need the strength and also poise of Costa, rather than the nimble nature of Aguero. Right now, there is no better striker in English football than Diego Costa. He’s simply brilliant.
